Covid-19 & International Year of the Health and Care Workers 2021

This is the platform for ICN’s National Nurses Associations to share their experiences, learnings and advice from the frontlines of COVID-19

Highlighting and valuing the work of nurses and other healthcare workers continues from 2020 into 2021 – the World Health Organization designated International Year of the Health and Care Workers (YHCW). Under the theme Protect, Invest, Together, the YHCW campaign highlights the urgent need to invest in health workers for shared dividends in health, jobs, economic opportunity and equity.

The International Council of Nurses continues to serve the nursing community through this online platform as a way to bring the nursing community together during this unprecedented pandemic in modern times by sharing stories, information and knowledge gathered by ICN and by you, our member associations.

Send in your videos, photos and stories and we will share them with ICN family!
Thank you!

Annette Kennedy

ICN President

“This year, ICN and its members will build on our strong and successful collaboration of 2020 by coming together to ensure our voices are heard, that nurses are protected, supported and valued and that our vital work is recognised and rewarded.”

Howard Catton

“Nurses and healthcare workers have been in the spotlight as they lead the global response to the pandemic and that’s where they must stay as we learn the lessons, rebuild and reset our healthcare systems for the future. Nurses and healthcare workers are for more than a year and even a pandemic but all our lifetimes.”

For International Nurses Day 2021, ICN has chosen the theme Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare. We are developing a variety of fantastic resources (logo, posters, report, videos, etc) for you to use to make sure the world hears our voice throughout the year!
ICN is part of a global voice that’s been speaking for nurses around the world for 120 years. This timeline celebrates the inspirational women and men whose dedication and pioneering spirit helped to create the ICN, which now represents over the 20 million nurses worldwide!
