My COVID Story

As soon as I graduated from the nursing program, I started my nursing journey in the work field. I started this journey in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and it wasn’t easy. I knew the community needed my help so I decided to join the forces as a frontline worker. I heard many stories of covid units before I stepped foot there, and one thing I can tell you is that the situation was much worst than I expected. I was working long shifts, and doing a lot of overtime. I had a patient load of 4 patients per shift, and at least 3 patients were actively dying. It was really difficult seeing the patients deteriorate so quickly and there wasn’t much I could do other than provide oxygen and make sure they’re comfortable. Working on a covid unit was emotionally and physically draining.
